Avant Apparel launched their debut collection at Joburg Fashion Week on Friday at the Bus Factory in New Town. The dynamic brand is powered by design duo Lauren du Plessis and Bailey Alison, both LISOF graduates.
Avant Apparel is a new sector of fashion production company Gaschette. Gaschette from French origin meaning trigger, was conceived as a complement to the principle of pushing the boundaries and bringing about unexpected and unique reactions.
Gaschette is an undeniable force in styling, production and design – Avant Apparel being the design trigger within the Gaschette family.
The collection is described by the designers as graphic, boxy, linear, uncomplicated and clean. The range was created within the constraints of clean, simple, neat lines with hints of tailored components as well as a generous helping of form and shape suggesting a futuristic influence. This design is undoubtedly a juxtaposition of definite form and shape within the loose confines of drapery. Superb attention was paid to fit and finishes, with fringing and fitted displaying predominantly in the collection.
The colour palette is a range of soft nudes and pinks contrasted with stark black.
Key looks include a long-sleeve; figure-hugging mesh mini with cut-out detail, a black plunge neck draped jumpsuit as well as a cropped melton jacket with exposed zipper detailing.
The range was met with wide spread acclaim, with one prominent fashion blogger describing it as “the collection that every woman wants to own right now.”
Avant’s current focus on the young female trendsetter is just the starting block for these two, never failing to live up to their principle of pushing the boundaries with intention to expand into menswear in the near future.
The synergy of these two creative minds only sets the standards higher with their recipe for unprecedented results.
Avant triggers the reaction.
